On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Asheville Area Piano Forum, we would like to welcome you to the 2010 – 2011 Season of programs and events. We regard our mission in music education as an essential supplement to the severely under-weighted priorities for Arts programs in most our schools. The strength of the AAPF lies in the countless volunteer hours given by each member. Our combined volunteer hours and your generous donations produce yearly benefit recitals, educational programs for the membership and public, performance groups in homes, and student recitals, as well as an annual student competition.
Donations and the Gift of Volunteering Your Time
As a 501(C)3 charitable organization, the AAPF relies heavily on your tax deductible donations, without which our charitable mission in music education would be impossible. Your donations enable us to fund our concerts and competitions, the proceeds of which directly benefit the continuing education of piano students in our community. Please consider making an additional donation of any size along with your annual dues to support our good work. Separately, whether you are able to make an extra donation or not, we urge our members to consider volunteering some of their time to the AAPF in support of the ever-increasing work load required by our expanding calendar of activities.
Concerts and Competitions / 10th Anniversary Fall Benefit Concert
Our two major benefit concerts in the Spring and Fall, which are important fund raisers for student assistance awards, have been very successful in previous years, attracting a diverse group of music lovers, students, and patrons. This year we are celebrating a 10th anniversary with our Annual Fall Benefit Concert to be held at Diana Wortham Theatre on Sunday, September 26, at 3:00 p.m. Your help is essential to the success of this concert. We ask each of our members to encourage their friends to support this effort, so we will be able to fill the entire theater for this popular celebration of music. Tickets are available through Diana Wortham Theatre by calling 828-257-4530. In support of our educational mission, we also sponsor three student recital events and the annual Asheville Piano Competition and Winners’ Recital. Our 6th Annual Spring Benefit Concert is scheduled for Sunday, April 3, 2011 at 3:00 p.m., so please mark your calendars for this event.
AAPF Programs
Finally, our five general meetings offer a diverse selection of programs this year, as you can see from the posted calendar. Karen Boyd has assembled a terrific series of programs featuring members of the Forum as well as two outside speakers, Dr. Matthew Manwarren of Winthrop University and Joseph Atkins of Middle Tennessee State University. We look forward to welcoming you to our first general meeting on Friday, September 10, to begin our new season with a program by Dr. Melanie Taylor on New Faces in 21st Century Piano Music. Since these meetings are open to the public, please invite your friends, as well.
Our general meetings are open to the public, and we encourage all music lovers and those interested in the piano repertoire to join us for the interesting series of programs that we have for the 2010 – 2011 season.
Many thanks to all of you who make the AAPF such a wonderful and productive organization! We look forward to working with each of you during this coming season.
With best wishes as we begin this exciting new season,
Judith Rodwell and Bill Clark, Co-Presidents
